In what ways is my BFA artwork part of postmodernism?

What is modernism vs. postmodernism in a sentence:

This is art vs. What is art?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In what ways is my BFA artwork part of postmodernism?

My BFA artwork will be using computers softwares and programs as my creative tools for my art instead of traditional art instruments such as pencils and paintbrushes.  Project will not be something that could be understood and appreciated in thirty seconds or less. The viewer will need to interact with my art in order to understand the the concept the more he or she intereact with my project the more they understand it..

Digital Arts BFA Senior Studio Contract

Digital Arts BFA Senior Studio Contract

1. What you will work on (type/genre of digital art). Is it one piece, a series, or several works?
I  will be working on digital imaging and video.  The final project will be series of works relating to a story that I have created called “Broken Keys”.  There will be a series of 5 artworks that will be snapshots of some of the issues that is being addressed in the story.  There will also be a video, something along the lines of a trailer that will explain the story’s plot.

2. What idea/concept drives your project? What theme will the project address? If this is time-based, it should include a synopsis of the piece. Otherwise, it should be a concept statement.
I like the process of character design from the visual look of a character to create the character’s his or her backstory or history.  The concept behind my project is to explore alternative ways and looks to creating the visual aspect of not only the characters but a glimpse of the world they are living in as well.

3. Formal aesthetics and how they support the concept.
My aesthetic style incorporates the circular abstraction style with the sharp clean edges of graphic design. This unique style will be able to support my concept for my BFA because I will be creating the visual look of a characters and the world that they live in but in a style that is not traditionally use when doing so.

4. What final format it will take (medium & size), that discusses specifically how it will be displayed in the gallery (recall that each student gets about 12’ of linear wall space or 12 square feet of floor space).
The 5 still image are will be on the wall making a V-shape formation while the trailer video on the screen will be on a trolley and  in front of the still images. So the position of the images will lead the viewers’ eyes to the video trailer.

Equipment needed for both PRODUCTION as well as for final DISPLAY in the BFA Thesis Exhibition gallery.

  • Scanner
  • Camera
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • TV or computer screen (to show the “trailer”)
  • Autodesk Maya
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Audition
  • Large Printer

Response on Creative Blocks

The article talked about how creative block can really inhibit an artist’s creativity thus hindering him or her from being productive. It also mention how there are many reason behind the creative blocks whether we find the task unpleasant, fear of failing or being criticized or as a for m of protection of oneself from potential harm.  Sometimes the reason behind the block could be you are temporarily creatively drained or something in you life is cause you imbalance. However it is important to take care of ones’ self through whatever means to avoid or at least get through these issues.

It is interesting how anything that is going on in your live can greatly affect your creative flow.  Also realizing that taking care of you health physically, mentally and psychologically is just as important as taking care creative skills.  Though it is a little ironic that doing nothing is one of the worst things one can do to themselves. Lastly I never saw engaging creativity in art as a subtle courage. To me, it almost seems instinctive thing it do.

Artist Analysis 2.0 – Senior Project Ideas

After talking with heather about an idea of what my senior project would be I realize a few things:

- I seem to have developed a very circular/curvy oriented sometimes organic with bit graphic design like feel type of art style
- this style is very versatile and can translate well across different mediums.
- I very good with abstract types of works
- I really like character design and creating not just the story but the visual aspects of the story , the environment, the universe, the culture. But I like the character design the best.

This is kind of a problem for me.  I am good at making abstract artworks but since attending BGSU every art assignment requirement has been to make an abstract piece. Thus my skills making abstract pieces have gotten stronger than the my character designing skill which I also like to develop as well.
But Heather and I may have came up with a compromise that works with my artistic style strengths and my desire to create characters designs and visual images of stories.

Response to the notepad assignments

I found the notepad assignment a bit unusual at first.  I’m not use to writing down every interesting idea or though that came to mind.  I am also not use to having a small notepad on hand to write it down in.  It was hard at first to write everything down and I found a bit of a nuisance at first.

There were times I did not have any thoughts or ideas to right down.  There were other times that I would suddenly come up with a though that I should write down but I would have to stop everything that I was doing in order to write it down.  I eventually developed a way to write my thoughts on the notepad without it interrupting my momentum throughout the day.

Overall I did like this assignment. The process did help me come up and remember ideas for future art projects. I will like to continue this habit in the future. But I would prefer to get a bigger notepad.  I still not use to writing my thoughts but I am getting better at it day by day.

Artist Analysis...

As an artist, there are many things I am fasinated by many aspects of digtials art such as interactive media, animation, and digital imaging.  My particular interest is the creation process I like challenges of creatively and innovatively combining disparate elements be it character creation of abstract works. Some of the of the elements I like to use in my art are technology and nature, future and past and modernity versus antiquity.
